FROM A EUROPEAN PROFESSIONAL PIANIST & QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR

online lessons

I take an individual approach to each student, with a heavy focus on learning through actively playing the instrument. My goal is to make you an independent musician with good technique, knowledge of music theory, harmony, history, and an ability to read music. I emphasize on acquiring this set of skills through learning the music you genuinely love. Fulfilling your musical goals is in first place and is what I have in mind at all times. I teach all styles, ages, and levels, and I take full advantage of available technology to bring you the highest quality lessons possible. I prepare students for acquiring the most recognized piano certificates internationally such as ABRSM, LCME, RCM, and TCL.

"Ivan is a marvellous professor, very patient, kind, listening to student’s needs. My experience was that when he felt we reached a certain level that we could skip ahead, he gave me some more serious pieces to practice so I can advance practicing on something more fun than things in school books. Really appreciated this tailoring of my classes. Highly recommended.”

  • WHAT TYPE OF STUDENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
I teach a variety of styles to students of all ages and levels. I have plenty of experience in teaching kids, teenagers, and adult students. Beginner to experienced - everyone is welcome.
  • DO I NEED ANY EQUIPMENT FOR ONLINE LESSONS?
You need a piano or a full-size keyboard and a device such as a tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. You will need to position your device to the side so I can see both you and your hands on the keys. A good internet connection is required in order for our lessons to go smoothly.
  • DO I NEED TO PURCHASE BOOKS?
Most classical music is in public domain and sheet music is available to download for free on websites such as imslp.org. However, if you are just starting piano for the first time, I will kindly ask you to purchase a beginner piano method book you can follow along on our first lessons.
  • WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
If you wish to cancel or reschedule your lesson, please notify me at least 24 hours prior to the agreed time.
  • HOW DO I OPTIMIZE THE ONLINE LESSON EXPERIENCE?
There are a number of things you can do: Take 10 - 15 minutes at the piano to get in the groove and warm up before your lesson starts. Make sure your devices are fully charged or plugged in during the lesson. Good lighting is essential. If your room doesn't have plenty of natural light, consider buying a LED ring light. Use an ethernet cable if you can or bring the router as close as possible to your device if you're using wireless connection. Use a dedicated condenser microphone. Use quality headphones. Position your device to the side, and slightly above the keyboard level.
  • HOW MUCH DO I NEED TO PRACTICE?
As a rule, the more - the better. I recommend at least 15-20 minutes of focused practice every day for a steady progress. Practice is absolutely essential to your development as a musician. The key is not volume, but the quality and consistency of practice. I encourage you to find a time of day for piano practice and make it a part of your daily schedule. Try to practice every day, no matter for how long, until it becomes a habit.
  • WHAT IF THERE ARE TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES?
Technical difficulties do occasionally happen and in such a scenario I will add extra time to the lesson to make up for it.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONLINE PIANO LESSONS?
Online lessons are a safe and convenient way to learn piano from the comfort of your home, while keeping the benefits of the traditional in-person lessons. Today's technology allows us to completely translate the traditional format to the online environment. You will also save time and money usually spent on traveling to the studio and back.
  • WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
    I charge $80 per 45 minutes lesson.
  • DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?
I offer discounts if you pay for 4 or more lessons at once up front.
  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE LESSONS?
I recommend taking lessons at least once a week in order to maintain good progress. Ideally you can take lessons two times a week if you want to take piano very seriously and improve very fast. This is my suggestion, but you can schedule your lessons in any time frequency you like.
  • HOW DO YOU HANDLE BILLING?
Once we schedule our lessons, I will request payment through email. All payments are handled by Stripe, which is a trusted and well-known payment processor. I do not have access to your payment information as it is all handled completely by Stripe. I only provide you with the payment link.
